Copyright & Permissions
Our own material
Sermons, articles, teaching notes, photographs and other original material published on this site are © Paris Bible Church unless otherwise noted. You are welcome to quote, print and share this material for personal study, for teaching, and for the life of your own church, provided you do not sell it and you say where it came from. If you would like to use something more extensively, please ask — we will almost certainly say yes.
The Scripture texts below are a different matter. They are not ours to give away, and the permissions we hold do not extend to you.
Scripture texts
Our Study tool displays Bible text supplied by four services under separate licences. Each translation carries its own copyright and its own conditions. Where a passage is on screen, its publisher’s notice is shown alongside it.
English Standard Version (ESV)
Scripture quotations are from The ESV® Bible (The Holy Bible, English Standard Version®), © 2001 by Crossway, a publishing ministry of Good News Publishers. Used by permission. All rights reserved.
The ESV is used here under Crossway’s non-commercial API licence. That licence permits this site to display the text for personal, church and ministry use; it does not permit us to sub-license it. The ESV text on this site may not be copied, stored or redistributed beyond what Crossway’s own terms allow — broadly, up to 500 verses, provided the quotation does not amount to half of any book of the Bible or half of the work quoting it. The NLT, NKJV and NBLA are provided through API.Bible, a service of the American Bible Society, under a non-commercial licence.
Public-domain and openly licensed texts
The Study tool also offers translations whose copyright has expired or which were released for free use, including the King James Version, the American Standard Version, Young’s Literal Translation, the Darby translation, the Lexham English Bible, and the Greek New Testament in several editions (Scrivener’s Textus Receptus 1894, Westcott–Hort, Byzantine/Majority, Stephanus, Elzevir). These carry their own notices where applicable, shown with the text.
The services that supply these texts
This site uses the Biblia web services from Logos Bible Software.
Bible text is also supplied by API.Bible (American Bible Society), the YouVersion Platform, and the ESV API from Crossway.
The availability of a translation through any of these services does not give this site the right to sub-license it, and does not give visitors the right to redistribute it. If you want to reuse a translation you found here, go to its publisher.
Other material
Sermon audio is hosted by SermonAudio and Sermon.net and remains subject to their terms. Trade marks, logos and version names belong to their respective owners; their appearance here indicates the source of a text, not any endorsement of this site.
Corrections and permissions
If you believe material on this site is used in error or without proper permission, please contact us using the details below and we will correct or remove it promptly.
Privacy Statement
Paris Bible Church runs this site. We do not sell, rent or trade information about the people who visit it, and we do not run advertising. This statement describes what actually happens when you use the site, including the parts we do not control.
What we collect ourselves
Almost nothing. There is no analytics package on this site — no Google Analytics, no advertising pixel, no visitor tracking of our own. We do not build profiles of visitors, and you do not need an account to read anything here.
Two exceptions:
- The contact form. If you write to us, we receive the name, email address and message you type. We use it to reply to you and keep it no longer than we need to. Messages are delivered to our administrator’s inbox by email, which means they pass through our email provider’s servers in the ordinary way that email does.
- Server logs. Like nearly every website, our web host records routine technical information about requests — IP address, the page requested, the time, and your browser’s user-agent string. This is used to keep the site running and secure.
What stays on your own device
The Study tool remembers a few of your preferences — which Bible version you were reading, which translations you chose for the comparison rows, which original-language text you prefer — using your browser’s local storage. This information stays in your browser on your device. It is never transmitted to us, and we cannot read it. Clearing your browser’s site data removes it.
Third-party services that receive information about you
Some parts of this site load content from other companies. When that happens, your browser contacts them directly, and they can see your IP address and which page you are on. We list them plainly:
- Meta (Facebook) — Messenger chat. The chat button in the corner of every page is Meta’s Messenger plugin. It loads Meta’s software into your browser on every page you visit, whether or not you open the chat, and Meta may set cookies and receive information about your visit. If you are logged into Facebook, Meta can associate that information with your account. This is governed by Meta’s privacy policy, not by ours. If you would rather not be seen by Meta, a content blocker or a browser that blocks third-party scripts will prevent it loading.
- Google Fonts. The site’s typefaces are served by Google, so Google receives your IP address when a page loads.
- Google Maps. The map on our Visit Us page is embedded from Google and loads when you open that page.
- SermonAudio and Sermon.net. Sermon audio players are embedded from these services on sermon and teaching pages, and they receive information about your visit to those pages.
- American Bible Society — Scripture usage reporting. When you read a passage in the NLT, NKJV or NBLA, our Study tool runs a small script from American Bible Society that records the passage viewed. It uses a randomly generated device identifier and session identifier; it does not receive your name or email, and we do not pass it any account information. This reporting is a condition of the licence that lets us offer those translations at no cost, and it is how the publishers see that their texts are being used.
- Cash App. Our giving button links to Cash App. Nothing is shared with them unless you follow that link, and any payment you make is handled entirely by them under their own terms — we never see your card or bank details.
What does not happen
Worth stating explicitly, because it is unusual: when you read a Bible passage here, the request for that text is made by our server, not by your browser. Crossway, Logos, YouVersion and API.Bible receive a request for a chapter from us. They do not receive your IP address and they cannot see who asked for it. The one exception is the usage reporting described above, which does run in your browser.
Cookies
We set no cookies of our own for tracking. WordPress may set a cookie if you log in to administer the site, and the third parties listed above — Meta in particular — may set their own.
Children
This site is intended for a general audience. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children, and there is nothing on the site that asks for it. If you believe a child has sent us information through the contact form, tell us and we will delete it.
Your choices
You can read this entire site without giving us anything. If you have written to us and would like us to delete your message, ask and we will. If you would like to know what we hold about you, ask and we will tell you — in most cases the answer will be nothing at all.
Changes
If we add a tool or a service that changes any of this, we will update this page and change the date at the top.
